Suisun City sits low, right at the edge of the Suisun Marsh, and a lot of lots hold water in the wet season. Concrete poured on soft, wet subgrade settles, and water that has nowhere to go ends up under the slab. Before we form anything we look at where the water goes today, take out soft soil, compact a rock base, and grade the new driveway or patio so it drains away from the house — not toward the garage or the foundation.
Like much of Solano County, Suisun City is built on clay that swells when it’s wet and shrinks in the summer. That movement is what lifts walkway edges and cracks driveways over time. A well-compacted base and rebar reinforcement keep the slab working as one piece, and properly placed control joints decide where any shrinkage crack shows up.
